Facebook also ranked as the application that organizations
had the most followers/friends/fans with an overwhelming 92%. Twitter was the second most active
application with 4%, followed by YouTube with 2%, then MySpace and Flickr with
1%. The chart below gives the detailed
responses. Orchestras that answered
“Other” cited e-blast programs as most active, although as defined earlier
these are not actually social media.
As defined in the introduction of this paper, mechanisms
that only provide information through one-way communications are not social
media. As e-blasts send messages but do
not allow all recipients to respond to all those that the message has been sent
to, they are not social media / Web 2.0 applications.
