Mapping Impact

People are visual.  We hit the like button for pictures on Facebook more often than we hit the like button for only a status.  To strengthen conversations with funders, foundations, sponsors, etc. we can use visuals to help show our impact and our value.

The below is a regional representation of the subscribers of the Erie Philharmonic.  Each thumb tack represents a subscriber household.  An image like this makes a strong statement to a company who is a potential sponsor.  One of the reason companies sponsor arts organizations is for the positive feedback they will receive from their attendees.

An image like the above helps to show that the organization has an extremely strong audience base in the city of Erie and in various areas surrounding the city.  The below image is the same subscribers but now zoomed in to give more specifics as to their locations.  Not only are these images effective, they were created for free using Google Maps.  Consider the power words in a written proposal heightened with images and also consider the visual impact that is possible during a verbal presentation.

  1. That is a cool tool. How did you make the map? Is there a fast way or did some intern enter each one?

  2. Perfect intern project but also fast! If you have all of the addresses in an excel sheet you can input all of the addresses into Google Maps at the same time.
